I founded The Sergei Foundation, Inc. after my beloved Siberian Husky, Sergei, (pronounced SER-gay) passed on August 13, 2009.
Sergei lived 12 years but had multiple health issues. He was like a "son" to me throughout the years and he truly helped me through some horrible times in my life; I don't know what I would have done without him! I am blessed that we somehow found the money, or the extra credit limit, to keep him in our lives for as long as we did.
This got me thinking how many people, especially in today's poor economy, do not have the ability to treat their dog for a serious, life-threatening illness or injury.
With so many people facing unemployment, foreclosures or illness of their own, so often the reality is the inability for them to save their pet, even when there is a curable treatment. That's why the Sergei Foundation is here to help. Because if we can help just one family at a time keep their canine son or daughter, I feel like I am helping my Sergei live on...
- Your animal MUST meet emergency-level criteria or face permanent loss of quality of life. We DO NOT pay for routine care, vaccinations, or minor medical needs. We DO NOT help fund for Parvo unless there is proof of veterinary vaccination.
- You MUST have previous history of veterinary care with a vet that we can call to verify that you have been a good "pet parent" and have had annual check-ups and shots for the animal.
- We DO NOT provide financial assistance for cancer, diabetes, or other chronic (repeat care) illnesses. You can check our resources page for organizations that may help in that area.
- You MUST have applied for (or be willing apply for) Care Credit PHYSICALLY AT A VET (not online) and have been denied or did not get approved for total amount needed. Medicaid, disability and unemployment are considered in determining funding levels.
